Phobophobia – The Fear of Fear

Posted on 12 April 2010

How does one fear the feeling of fear? As I’m sure most of you know, phobias are irrational fears. I guess it doesn’t get more irrational than fearing irrational fears:

It is liked with anxiety disorders and more common phobias like agoraphobia, (the fear of the market place, or the outdoors in today’s language.) But it is more commonly describes as a fear of fears, or a fear of developing phobias. People suffering from this disorder often have anxiety issues to begin with and phobophobia is the result of being so afraid of the internal consequences of anxiety.

Thankfully all I fear are bears and swift vengeance at the hands of an angry god. I don’t know if I could go through life with the fear of becoming afraid of something.

Akorra has collected what they believe to be the top 10 fears and phobias. If you’ve got the stomach for it, give it a read.

    Hi,

i think that fear of fear sounds like the fear of the anxiety you get when you’re immersed in a fear – a fear of how your body feels, with that anxiety; a fear of feeling powerless or weak; or even a fear of feeling something that is buried deep inside you (a core limiting belief). Maybe.

I can see this fear of fear takes hold, anyway.

Ps I have my own scary list of top 10 fears too! :-O
