Scary Chinese Tradition Makes Deformed Feet

These are Chinese women who have feet that are deformed as a result of the drastic measures that are taken to keep their feet small such as having their toes or arches broken and of course, of wearing shoes that are much too small. In China a sign of femininity for girls is to have small feet. The result is feet that are deformed.

just for those who have never heard of the foot binding tradition before now. it is illeagal and has been for a long time so dont worry. also it only went on for a little while and was not mandatory in all places, only those that the Mao governent officers lived and visited

Less common in rural areas, if I remember correctly, as women were more likely to need to spend hours on their feet working the fields, and footbinding made that all but impossible.
